Criminal Law

Throughout her time at the Bar Micaila has defended and prosecuted a variety of offences in the Youth Court, Magistrates Court and Crown Court. 

 

She prosecutes on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service presently and has previously been instructed to act on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions, Essex and Suffolk County Councils and the RSPCA to undertake a range of prosecutions. 

 

Having obtained both her Duty Solicitor and Police Station accreditations she is able to represent and advise Clients throughout proceedings from the Police Station right the way to the ECHR.

 

Nowadays, she spends most of her time in the Crown Court defending all manner of criminal offences and have built up a raft of experience in the following matters:

  • Violent offences such as attempted murder, s.18 (including baby shaking, shootings, gang violence), s.20, ABH and domestic violence

  • All types of Public Order offences, including serious cases of Affray and Violent Disorder

  • Dishonesty offences including simple thefts, Burglary and Robbery. 

  • Varying degrees and types of benefit fraud

  • Arson, both reckless and intentional

  • Sexual offences – Rape (including in a domestic setting) and the management/control of brothels and related offences, historic sex cases

  • Drug offences including supply, conspiracy to supply, production and simple possession.

  • Kidnap

  • Dangerous Dogs offences including those where death has occurred 

  • Dangerous Driving

  • Death by Careless Driving

  • Health & Safety offences

She has also been instructed to deal with specific applications including PII, POCA, SHPOs, Abuse of Process and Appeals to the Court of Appeal.

 

Micaila has developed a particular interest in Mental Health Law and the justice system dealing with fitness to plead, fitness to stand trial and of course all disposals under the Mental Health Act. 

She is also well versed in Prison Law and has attended adjudications and Parole Board hearings on a number of occasions.

 

Previously, whilst in Essex she had experience in Court Martial work at the Colchester Military Training Centre defending the usual criminal matters and serious matters of AWOL and desertion.
